Whitewater Rafting Trip
September 29, 2007 - We went to Ocoee Tennessee to raft 5 miles of white
water rapids on the Ocoee river. We were about 20 miles north of the
Georgia line. 19 of us from church car pooled up the GA backroads. Most
of us had never been whitewater rafting before so this was sure to be an
experience. The scenery in the mountain area was awesome. It was a great
day to be outdoors. We arrived at Cherokee Rafting just in time
for our 12:30pm appointment. They split us up into different teams and
mixed us in with other groups from other places. Each raft had its own
guide. My team had the guide leader who brought up the rear and had the
safety kit for all the boats. There were 5 of us in our raft plus the
guide. We definitely got wet. Though our guide played it safe with us
(none of us were thrown from the raft), we did lose our guide himself, who
fell off in one rapid. As he was the guide leader, he got ragged on by
the other guides who saw it. At one point near the end, one raft ahead of
us lost everyone in their raft except the guide. Overall it was fun.
The water was a bit chilly but we survived with no cuts or bruises. All
of the rapids were type 3 and 4 (on a scale of 1 [mild] to 6 [dangerous]).
Some pictures of our team are below. I'm on the closest side in the
middle wearing redish swim trunks. Our guide, Blake, is in the back of
the raft. Marvin is just in front of me.
